Wahid Zaland
Wahid Zaland is a singer from the Zaland family, the closest thing Afghan music has to a dynasty. His father was Ustad Jalil Zaland (c. 1935–2009) — a singer and composer central to Afghanistan's golden era, who helped form the first band at Radio Afghanistan, composed several of the country's national anthems, and wrote “Man Amadeam”, later made famous by the Iranian star Googoosh. His sister Shahla Zaland, also on this site, has performed since 1990; his sister Soheila Zaland sings as well, and his brother Farid Zaland (born 1949) is a composer known for his work with Iranian musicians. This entry is deliberately short. The published record covers his father and his siblings far better than it covers him, and we would rather leave an honest gap than fill it out with guesswork. If you know his work — the recordings, the dates, where they were made — we would like to hear from you.
