Tawab Arash
Tawab Arash was born in Herat in 1976, an ethnic Tajik of the city, into a family with a strong artistic streak: he is the nephew of the singer and composer Amir Jan Sabori, who also appears in this catalogue, and the younger brother of the Afghan film actor Nemat Arash. He came to music relatively late and outside Afghanistan. He began singing and learning keyboard around 1999 after moving to Russia, encouraged by his brothers and by an Indian teacher, and started performing professionally soon afterwards. His first two concerts were in Stockholm, shared with Mirwais Hamrah — another artist in this catalogue. Published accounts of these years are inconsistent, with some sources placing a move to Sweden as early as 1996. He released Roshani in 2006, Chai Wa Chilam in 2007 and Coming Soon in 2010, and his uncle has produced for him. He belongs to the diaspora generation of Afghan singers who never performed professionally inside Afghanistan at all, learning the repertoire abroad and taking it back to Afghan audiences in Europe and North America.
