Shafiq Mureed
Shafiq Mureed is an Afghan singer and composer, born in Laghman province. He writes and composes his own material; his first hit, "Bewafa", came in 2007 after he attended a music school in Kabul, and a 2012 collaboration with Nazir Khara on "Dar Aan Nafas Ke Bimiram" brought him a much wider audience. Khara also appears in this catalogue. His output crosses languages more freely than most — mainly Dari, with songs in Pashto, Hazaragi and Hindi, which in the Afghan context is a deliberate gesture as much as a musical one. His video for "Da Afghanistan" features Seeta Qasemi and Mozhdah Jamalzadah, both of whom are here too. He lost his father to the war, and founded Rayan Children, a non-profit working on education for Afghan children most affected by the conflict. In 2016 a video of him talking about fathers taking a real part in raising their children circulated widely among Afghan audiences. Several of the online sources about him are low-quality aggregator pages; the details above are the ones that could be corroborated elsewhere.
