Seeta Qasemi
Seeta Qasemi is an Afghan singer, composer and television presenter who has worked in both Dari and Pashto, moving between pop and Afghan folk forms. She entered the music scene in 2008, after appearing at smaller events alongside established singers. Her childhood was shaped by displacement: the civil war took her family out of Afghanistan to Pakistan, where she lived until she married at twenty-five. "Dokht Watan" was her first commercial success. Her first Pashto song, "Ta Sara Meena Larem", was filmed in Afghanistan and widely praised for her accent — a real test for a Dari-speaking singer crossing into Pashto. "Mastam Mast", the Hazaragi song "Watandar" and "Zan", released on International Women's Day, are among her other well-known recordings. She appeared in Shafiq Mureed's video for "Da Afghanistan" alongside Mozhdah Jamalzadah, both of whom are also in this catalogue. Her television work began with a Ramadan charity programme on Khurshid that visited families in need. She now lives in Germany, having left because of the conflict. English-language sources on her are weak and sometimes contradictory; the details above are the ones that can be corroborated.
