Ghazal Sadat
Ghazal Sadat is an Afghan singer and businesswoman, born in Herat on 11 February 1970. She sings and plays piano, and her work moves between pop, R&B and Afghan folk forms — an unusual range for an Afghan singer, and R&B in particular is something almost no one else in this catalogue attempts. She is based in Dubai, where alongside her music she runs a substantial set of businesses: investments in a water company and in medical clinics, and four restaurants and cafés, in Dubai's Jumeirah district and in Riyadh and Jeddah. Few Afghan performers of her generation have built a second career on that scale, and fewer still have done it in the Gulf rather than in Europe or North America. Her published record is frustratingly incomplete. No reliable account gives the year she started singing, and no discography has been compiled in English — her Wikipedia entry is a stub sourced largely to Arabic and Dari news reports, and the celebrity-biography sites that fill the gap contradict both it and each other on her birth year and birthplace. This page previously held a single line. If you know her catalogue, we would be glad to hear from you.
