Ameer Jan Saboori
Amir Jan Sabori is an Afghan singer, musician, composer and poet from Herat, and a figure other musicians point to as much as audiences do. He writes his own material, and his standing among Afghan artists rests on the songwriting as much as the voice. After a long period away from recording he returned in 2005 with the album Zindagi Hameen Ast — This Is Life. He has also produced for his nephew, the singer Tawab Arash, who is in this catalogue, and the singer Vahid Soroor names him among his influences. A documentary about him, Golden Dream, was reported by Deutsche Welle in 2011. Published English-language sources on him are unusually thin for an artist of his reputation — no reliable birth date is recorded, and accounts of his background conflict. What is not in doubt is the body of work, which is why we would rather say less here than guess. If you can tell us more about him, please get in touch.
